Breast Cancer Butterfly 2013

Hi Everyone,
Wow 2 posts in one weekend! I guess I do have my craft on!  I just wanted to show you the buttons I made for Sam's office.  I think the girls will love wearing them.  Here is a picture of the buttons:

No your eyes are not playing tricks on you.  I have been having so many problems with my HP Printer.  It is the 7500a and I am ready to throw it in the garbage.  All those graphics were printed through 4 different software packages and yet the gray printed green, The color pink changed with each try. I was getting frustrated! So I gave up and pressed the buttons.  They all look good in person.  Here is the graphic as a .jpeg for anyone who may want it.

I know, I know the font is black on the buttons.  That is because I just could not get it to color pink to print on the font due to printer problems.  I had to remove the shadow too!  Let me know it you want the graphic in black writing.  I will post it for you for sure.  Have a great "rest of the weekend"

Nothing Says It's Over . . . Like A Covered Pool!

Hi Everyone,
I know, I Know you all don't want to hear my end of summer rant. Everyone has been back to school for weeks. Vacation time is a dwindling memory. It's gone, It's O-V-E-R and has been for about a month.  No, Peeps, for me it ain't over till the pool cover is on! And sadly that happened this weekend.  No more crank'n the heater and watching the steam rise up to the cold air. It's done. Wait here is my sad face     ):
So just like that it is Fall, geeeze you guys it was 80 degrees yesterday here in Jersey! Here is my sad, sad picture:

True leaves are falling every which way and acorns are a plenty so the squirrels are happily enjoying their full belly's.  The house is glowing in all its orange glory and I have been working on Halloween favors.  We had a fantastic birthday celebration for Rory last weekend and a good time was has by all. So now we can really focus on the fall season and I can really start to work on Rory's costume for this year. Mummy! we are going mummy this year. Gothic of course!  The costume is in the house but it needs work. Mostly because she will freeze in it.  Samantha and I have our heads together about how to warm her up a bit.  Let's just say we will be buying lots and lots of gauze and doing some tea dyeing.  I also made my breast cancer butterfly for this years luncheon and here is a pic of that:
This graphic will be used for cupcake toppers and I will add the team logo before I go to print.  I made it using CA2 (as always) I have a tag line that I will format in a circle to go around the outside of the butterfly. I will post a pic when they are on the cupcakes.
And my big news is that the Brother Scan n Cut is coming to play in my craftspace. I hope to have it this coming week.  I also hope I have a lot to say about it.  Here is a picture of the cm550dx that is available from Brother sewing machine dealers:
Now I need another cutter like I need a hole in my head but I am a Brother fan to start with so I had to have this baby.  I have to tell you it was not easy to buy.  There are 2 models available. This is the one that is available through a sewing machine dealer.  Go figure, all the quilters are now going to be cutting fabric with a machine (you go, Quilters!).  Me, I am hoping this is the answer to all my print and cut issues.  I could not find a dealer in Middlesex County, NJ so we had to take a bit of a trip. I paid in advance for a cutter that I never even saw work. (you go, Lysa! Let's just hope this is not another Cricut Imagine disaster!) Time will tell and let's just thank heaven that the Hubs did not file for divorce!! Stay tuned because I plan on trying to see if this cutter will play nice with my CA2 and MTC software.
I hope you all are having a great weekend and thanks for visiting!

Breast Cancer Donation Basket Is Done!

Hi Everyone,
As you may know from past posts, my daughter Samantha works for an Oncology office.  As in the past I have mentioned how cancer is a large part of life for all the employees of the office.  I simply cannot sing their praises enough. Through out the year the office participates in numerous fund raising events as well as having some in office mood elevators (like luncheons and such).  During October each year the office donates a basket for auction at a local event.  Sam and I have been assembling the baskets for a few years now.  Here is a picture of this years:
Look how awesome and big this years is!  The staff went all out! There is all kinds of good stuff in that bad boy!  Pants, shorts, shirts, candles, travel mug, note pads, handmade scarf . . .  I can't even list the goodies there is so much!  But you know what my favorite part of this basket is? 'come on you know . . .  it's my awesome butterfly! Yup, the same one that will be on the cupcakes for their luncheon.  Here is a close up:
Print and cut with my MTC of course. I just love it.  Would make a great t-shirt decal wouldn't it? Back over the summer I uploaded this butterfly over at the MTC forum.  I have tweaked it just a bit and you can grab it as a vector .pdf here:

This file will import into MTC so that you can alter it to suit your needs. I hope you will leave me a comment to let me know if you use it or if you have any questions. I did remove our Doctor's name so that you can add whatever you wish to the center.  Maybe even add other words or name that may mean something more personal to you.  I hope you like my butterfly and use it too.  I also hope you, I, and all of us enjoy days filled with good health!

My 2012 Breast Cancer Butterfly

Hi Everyone,
My daughter Sam works in an Oncology office.  Cancer is their life! They spend their days (and many times nights) assisting folks who are involved in their own private war.  Each and everyday the staff of this office leaves their own problems in their cars and walks through the door with smiles and eyes filled with hope for all of the people they will be seeing during the course of their day.  These girls are all special, no matter what their specific job is they all are an important aspect to the well being of the patients.  They are all very aware of all the effects cancer has on the life of their patients.  The office gets involved in all sorts of charity work to help keep cancer research going.  They participate in walks and make donations to charity events. They try to assist, teach and create a community support system. In October (breast cancer awareness month) they get together and have an office luncheon where they all cook or bake something.  These little breaks from the normal day helps to keep them together as group. A little bit of lightness in a stressful situation so to speak.  Last year Sam was on cupcakes and we made really nice toppers for the cupcake display (of course I didn't get a picture).  This year I got a jump on the graphic and I really like the way it looks.  Here is a .png of the graphic. I hope you like it too.

Can't you just see this on a toothpick coming out of pink and white frosted cupcakes!  I think the girls will love them.  I just hope I didn't make a spelling mistake.  If you catch one please let me know so I can fix it before I go to print!  Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend,
Lysa
EDITED ON 10-11-2012:

Just Checking In

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick post to say I have not fallen off the face of the earth.  The family took a trip to visit our Massachusetts family.  We got home and sure enough autumn has hit New Jersey.  All of us here are busy busy busy!  We have had all the "fun" of back to school, and we have all the Halloween decorations up.  We also have celebrated Rory's birthday (about 3 times). We have even had some crafty goodness happening.  Along with some Halloween crafty fun.  Samantha and I put together an awesome gift basket donation for a breast cancer fund raiser that the office she works in was donating (pic to follow as it is on my phone). Sam works for an oncologist and the basket was the office donation for an annual fund raiser.  Today we made some cupcake embellishments for a staff luncheon this coming week.  Above is the graphic we used for the cupcake tags. I made it in inkscape and used MTC to export it as an png file. I used my DSA2 to add text.  The tags were punched out and attached to toothpicks for the cupcakes.  Hopefully I will be here when Sam assembles the cupcake platter so I can snap a picture of the tags.  Now that I am done with that I hope to start banging out some Halloween projects before the holiday is here and gone.  If you want the svg or MTC file for the butterfly leave me a comment on how to contact you and I will send it off to you. Thanks for visiting, Lysa
